“to create friendships
that spark curiosity
so that we can all live and work
in places where people grow”
Hi, I’m Carlin Doeksen!
I am a Certified Training and Development Professional with seven years of experience training staff in the social services sector.
As a second-career trainer, my specialty is supporting new, second-career, or secondary-role training professionals like you!
I help company trainers set a confident path to professional identity and inspiring performance.
Who is this blog for?
If you are a new company trainer, a second-career trainer (like me), a secondary-role trainer (meaning you have a different primary profession, but the company always wants you to do training too!)…
…then this blog is for you! I am writing fresh content at least two times a week, with you in mind.
Every Monday morning I will start your week off with a brief, motivational note about who you are. This is the most important place for any new trainer to start. You need a clear, confident picture of who you are in your new role. Monday morning posts will strengthen your new identity as a workplace learning professional. Every Monday I will help you think clearly about your own philosophy of practice.
Every Thursday morning I will introduce a simple tool that will make your job easier. Some of these tools will be templates for every phase of the training and development profession. Some of these tools will be apps, platforms, services, and the tips that make them useful. Some of the tools that I’ll introduce will be related to balancing the rest of life, work, and productivity. Every Thursday I will help you find the tools you need to do the work you love!
When I was a kid in grade school, my dad started giving me a tool for Christmas every year. It was cool! Every year it was a surprise. I never knew what I was going to get! (mostly because I had zero interest in using those tools. Ha! I wanted toys!)
Dad was smart. The first year he started this tradition, I didn’t just get a Phillips screwdriver, I got a toolbox. Year after year, that toolbox filled up. When I loaded up that ’85 Chevy Citation (beige-brown, two-tone), I took along a full toolbox. I had everything I needed before I knew I needed it.

Over seven years ago, I lept out of a profession that I had invested over 20 years constructing. Sometimes it felt like I lept out of a second story window.. or a moving car… (Insert your personal, non-fatal illustration here.) Maybe you feel the same.
I had a lot of the latent talents related to corporate training. I had a ton of drive. I had many transferable skills. I definitely knew how to bluff my way through class. (one of my first talents!) But I had no idea what I was really doing, how it all fit together, and whether or not I was making a positive impact on the company as a trainer.
Now, I am constructing the school that I wish I had when I started my second career. The school will be called 6systems.academy and the first classes are on track to launch this spring!
Let’s build it together! If you are interested in being one of the first students of 6systems.academy, sign up! Get status updates. Get free trials for new modules. I want 6systems.academy to serve you, in your new career, perfectly.
Want in? Let’s go!
And… a little more about me (if you’re curious)
